Kuala Lumpur, September 12, 2006 - AIG Software International (AIGGS) participated once again in the 4th Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) Tan Sri Alex Lee Charity Golf championship held at Saujana Golf and Country Club to help raise money for the Tan Sri Alex Lee Athletes Education Fund. The fund was set up in 1999 in memory of the late Tan Sri Alex Lee, AIGSI's founding chairman who was also a national sports leader.
This year, four national athletes were given grants. The recipients were gymnast Ms Ernadia Os'hara Omar, women's volleyball players Beh Shun Thing and Iswari Manokharan and basketball player Ms Yoong Sze Yuin.
Former AIG Software International (AIGGS) Chairman Ybhg Puan Sri Irene Lee was present to hand over the grants as well as to unveil the new official logo for the Education Fund.
AIG Software International (AIGGS) CEO Antony Lee who is also a committee member of the fund read a message from Malaysian Squash star Nicol David (who is currently ranked No 1 in the World) in honor of the late Tan Sri Alex Lee:
"It was rare to find someone like the late Tan Sri Alex Lee who had such drive and vision on everything he did. He took that extra step for Malaysian Squash by striving towards a vision in his mind to make this sport known throughout the country and the world. He did that with the Commonwealth Games held in K.L in 1998 and everything just took over from then on.
He gave everything to make what he believed in a success and I'm very grateful to be part of his mission to bring squash to his expectations. He made sure we were well looked after in every way to compete amongst the rest of the world. We are where we are , today, thanks to him for all his efforts into getting us out there to gain as much experience as we needed at an early age. Squash in Malaysia will have never been where it is today without his dedication into this sport.
The achievements of our Malaysian squash players throughout these past few years were never in anybody's wildest dreams but the late Tan Sri Alex knew exactly where we were heading. His presence would always be with us where squash is concerned and with every new breakthrough in squash I know that , it was what he would have wished for to happen."
To date the fund stands at RM400,000 with about RM75,000 having been given out as grants. Also present at the ceremony were OCM deputy president Datuk Dr M. Jegathesan who gave away the prizes for golf and the General Secretary, Datuk Sieh Kok Chi .
