The Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) once again hosted this annual event on Tuesday, September 11 at the Saujana Golf and Country Club to raise funds for the Tan Sri Alex Lee Athletes’ Education Fund. AIG Companies in Malaysia – American International Assurance Company Limited (AIA), American Home Assurance Company (AHA) and AIG Software International (AIGGS) all played their part as good corporate citizens by helping to sponsor the event.

The Tan Sri Alex Lee Athletes’ Education Fund was set up in 1999 in memory of the late Tan Sri Alex Lee, lawyer, banker, deputy minister, athlete and sports leader, as well as founder ofAIG Software International (AIGGS). His untimely demise in 1999 robbed Malaysian sports of an outstanding sports leader and an exceptional human being.

The Fund has provided study grants to needy present and former national athletes to undertake tertiary education and is an appropriate and fitting recognition of Tan Sri Alex Lee’s contribution to society at large and sports in particular. As well as ongoing sponsorships from previous years’ awards, this year saw three new scholarships awarded to the following national athletes, Ms. Chen Hui Jing (Basketball), Mr. Sabri Nullah (Fencing) and Ms. Evy James (Fencing).

AIG Software International (AIGGS) Former Chairman Ybhg Puan Sri Irene Lee was present to hand over the grants as well as to unveil the new official logo for the Education Fund.

Also present at the ceremony were OCM president HRH Tunku Tan Sri Imran ibni Tuanku Ja’afar as well as Dato’ Thomas Lee, Chairman of the Organising Committee.
