AIG GLOBAL SERVICES BECOMES 2ND MALAYSIAN COMPANY TO ACHIEVE CMMI CERTIFICATION

Kuala Lumpur, June 15, 2004 - AIG Global Services (formerly known as AIG-Software International), a joint venture between American International Group Technologies (AIGT), a subsidiary of the American International Group (AIG) and Software International (SI) providing IT solutions to companies worldwide has been appraised at CMMI Maturity level 3.

AIG Global Services, as one of the pioneer Multimedia Super Corridor (MSC) status companies which commenced operations in 1998 has become the second Malaysian company to achieve this prestigious distinction, and the first to offer its services to businesses in Malaysia.

The appraisal determines that AIG Global Services software development, maintenance and management processes conform to the defined level of Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI-SW Ver 1.1) for software engineering of the Software Engineering Institute (SEI), Carnegie Mellon University, USA.

The SEI-CMMI model links management and software engineering best practices to business objectives and provides a framework to continue to optimize performance in management, product development and delivery. The CMMI Level 3 appraisal signifies successful application of industry best practices to an organization's management and engineering operations.

"The processes at AIG Global Services have been thoroughly well-defined and implemented through the involvement of all members of the organization, enabling them to satisfy business needs and to consistently deliver quality products. Process improvement is institutionalized in AIG Global Services as part of their culture. They exhibit several traits of high maturity organizations and I am sure that they will continue to build on these practices to optimize their processes", said Ashok Sontakke, Appraisal Team Leader, QAI.

"This significant achievement reaffirms our capability to provide our customers with best-in-class quality solutions, delivered on-time, every time. CMMI certification is a substantial undertaking for any organisation both in terms of time and cost. The benefits of improved processes throughout the organisation will pay dividends both for us and our customers." said Steve Snell, CEO AIGSI.

"This is an important milestone achieved by AIG Global Services and is a reflection of the company's continued commitment to providing IT services that meet well recognized international standards. CMMI certification allows companies to make qualified decisions when selecting their software development vendors - our customers and future customers can now be assured of both the quality and the timeliness of the delivery of their software." commented Antony Lee, CEO, AIG Global Services

Multimedia Development Corporation (MDC) CEO Datuk Dr Mohamed Arif Nun lauded AIGSI's achievement as testimony to Malaysia's capability to compete in the global IT market and that MDC is currently devising a plan to get more MSC-status companies to undertake the CMMI certification.

"There is a need for those companies to subscribe to universally acceptable standards, and to benchmark themselves against the best in the industry. Failure to do that will only result in being marginalised and inability to compete in the global market." he added.

Furthermore, he invited Malaysian-based software companies who are interested in pursuing CMMI certification to contact the Multimedia Development Corporation to take advantage of available programmes.
